Company Background

AFTRS Open is the short course division of the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS). Established in 1973, AFTRS has been delivering high quality training to the Australian film, television and radio industries for over 40 years. AFTRS offers state-of- the-art facilities, expert tuition from industry practitioners and was recently voted one of the top 15 film schools in the world by the prestigious film industry publication The Hollywood Reporter (30 July 2014) – the only Australian film school to make this list.

AFTRS Open runs over 300 film, television and radio short courses throughout the year in evenings, weekends and week days. We also run intensive Summer and Winter School courses for adults and school holiday courses for kids and teens.

Do you need to connect better with colleagues, staff or clients? Do you need to know how to communicate in presentations and interviews in a way that engages and motivates? At AFTRS Open we know what is needed to make a personal connection – not only what to say but how to say it to have maximum impact.

AFTRS Open is the short course division of the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS). We bring the skills of film, television and radio to a range of communication scenarios through our short courses. Our tutors are professionals from the film, television and radio industries, where an understanding of audience is paramount.

Our one and two day Presentation Skills courses run regularly in AFTRS state-of-the-art building, next to Fox Studios in Moore Park, Sydney. These small group courses focus on individual coaching to help you communicate better – in interviews, presentations, meetings, pitch sessions and everyday interactions. Course tutor Tracey Spicer is one of Australia’s most respected and versatile TV anchors and has conducted corporate presentation training in Australia and Southeast Asia for more than a decade.

This small-group course will include the following:

• Practical exercises in body language, gesture, voice, eye contact and breathing.
• Individual advice on how to structure your presentation
• Workshops for ad-libbed and rehearsed speeches, in formal and informal settings.
• Training in using microphones, lecterns, and props.
• Intensive on-camera exercises, suitable for broadcast, webcast or video conferencing.

Our presentation skills courses run throughout the year.

“Brilliant! As someone who is not a confident speaker I have learnt a range of skills and exercises to help improve in this area. I now know my weaknesses (and strengths) and where I need to spend time to improve even more.”

“I was taken out of my comfort zone and pushed to improve. While this was daunting it was done in a very supportive and constructive environment and I feel like I learnt a lot in just one day.” “Loved the course. Tracey is a fabulous presenter – knowledgeable, highly skilled and personable.”

“Tracey is golden. Her energy level and focus is unrelenting. She has that rare gift of making you feel that your mistakes are small – and worthy!”
