Company Background

CCUSA History – OVER 25 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE

In 1985, CCUSA was created as a company to provide young people from around the world an exciting opportunity to experience summer camp in the USA. Today, we are an internationally recognized organization that offers over 15 programs* worldwide and recruits from over 60 countries. We have placed over 300,000 young people in hundreds of summer camps and seasonal employment positions across the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, the UK, Europe, Brazil, Asia and South Africa! *(Not all programs are available in Australia).

Below is a brief description of CCUSA and our programs:

In 1985 the Camp Counselors USA program was founded to give internationals the chance to work in the USA and share their culture and experiences with American children during their summer holidays. As a staff provider for more than 1000 US camps, Camp Counselors USA has developed a renowned reputation for the high quality of service we provide to both our participants and our camps. Camp Counselors USA is respected in the US camping industry as the company that provides only the best quality counselors and support staff to camps. The participants we recruit are known for their great attitudes, strong work ethic and abilities.

In 1995, Work Experience USA was developed to widen the opportunities offered to internationals. Work Experience USA provides participants with valuable learning and personal growth experiences in jobs throughout the USA. Participants come to work in the USA during their summer holidays from University. Many of our participants have worked in, national parks, amusement parks, resorts, hotels, ranches and in any number of other various seasonal employers. With many options to choose from, this student-only program is a great way to expand your work experience, resume and meet new friends. Once again, CCUSA continues to lead the way by supplying top quality staff for US employers.

In 1996, CCUSA expanded its work programs outside of the United States with the opening of Camp Counselors Russia. This program offers the opportunity for young people to work as a counselor at summer camps for Russian children and to exchange cultures and traditions in an unique setting.

In 1997, Work Adventures Down Under was launched. 18 – 30 year olds travel to Australia or New Zealand or a combination of both to work and travel their way around the country. Work Adventures Down Under helps participants with the right advice and assistance to make their travel and work in these countries as carefree and memorable as possible.

In 2000, CCUSA expanded its offerings to include Practical Training USA. The J-1 trainee visa allows qualified individuals in the fields of Commerce, Finance, Business and Management to come to the USA and improve their skills through a 12 – 18 month training program. Successful completion of this program is a valuable enhancement to anyone’s CV.

In 2003, Camp California debuted. After years of requests for an American-style summer camp in mainland Europe, CCUSA took action and built a summer camp on the coast of the Adriatic Sea in Croatia. With over 160 campers per two-week sessions and a staff of 50 counselors from around the world, this camp has it all- international friendships, singing, games, ropes courses, climbing walls and, of course, a wonderful waterfront program including a renowned sailing program. CCUSA recruits both campers AND staff from around the world for Camp California.

In 2006 CCUSA added Camp Counselors Canada where we teamed up with NYQUEST to supply Camp Counselors and Support Staff to work at summer camps in Canada.

In 2007, CCUSA started Volunteer Experience South Africa. In conjunction with You2Africa, participants from the UK, Australia and America have the opportunity to partake in volunteer programs in South Africa.

In 2008, Working Holiday USA was created to allow Australians and New Zealanders the option to extend their international working adventure in the USA for up to 12 month

In 2009, CCUSA added new Volunteer programs. Participants will be able to volunteer through Volunteer Latin America, Volunteer Asia, and a new volunteer option in New Zealand.

Our entire range of programs offers exciting options for all ages. Anyone interested in our work & volunteer programs should come prepared to work hard, meet new people, have fun and be an ambassador for their country!

Through a CCUSA program, you will develop strong personal friendships with people from around the world; grow, learn and experience different lifestyles as more than just a tourist; and become a valuable member of the community that you work in.

This year, CCUSA programs will place over 35,000 individuals in work and volunteer opportunities around the world! We are extremely proud of all the programs we have to offer. Camp Counselors Russia

Program Overview
Summer Camp – A Great Russian Tradition
Every summer thousands of children head off for camps across Russia, from the shores of Lake Baikal to the beaches of the Black Sea. Each camp has its own philosophy, but all provide children a place to relax while having fun in an outdoor setting. In many ways, these camps resemble those in the United States and Canada. They are usually located in rural settings, miles away from the nearest town. Typically, a camp will have a large dining hall, crafts, sports buildings, and dormitories. Children usually come for sessions lasting 10 to 28 days. Many camp activities take place in the beautiful Russian countryside, often by a lake or river, which provides a glorious setting for swimming, boating and canoeing. Other activities may include theatre, land sports, arts, crafts, dance, and the performing arts.

I encourage everyone I know to apply for camp positions and namely through CCUSA. From the friendly staff, to the excellent interview process, information sessions and so forth – it was truly amazing. So THANK YOU! Camp was amazing and I have made so many lifelong friends from this experience also.”

“From friendly and comfortable pre camp interviews, to always having an answer to the millions of silly questions i had and then sharing my excitement at being placed CCUSA is there for every step of your camp journey. I can’t thank them enough for the most amazing opportunity and all the effort they put in to make sure every applicant was placed and happy. Now that camp has finished there’s not a day that goes by where i don’t think about the singing, the crazy antics, the long hours and wish i was doing it all over again. Thankyou CCUSA!”

– RENAE W

“I spent this summer working as a unit counselor at Camp River Ranch hiding away near the Cascade Mountains in Washington State. Mine too was a girl scout camp and having never been a girl guide in my life, I LOVED THIS PLACE! Each week brought about something different. Our girls came for one week sessions so I would go from having the 5 and 6 year old Brownies who liked nothing more than playing in the dirt making mud castles all day to the next week taking 8- 10 year old Juniors on an overnight excursion to the zoo to another week taking 11-13 year old cadets on a 3 day back-country hiking trip where my co-counselor and I had no contact with the outside world, we were responsible 200% for the safety and enjoyment of these girls. I was also lucky enough to spend time with the CITs (Counselors in Training) and hear their stories from attending camp their entire childhood. These girls are truly inspiring!

I learnt so much about myself this summer and whilst acting as a mentor, instructor and friend to girls from all different backgrounds, I also got to build my skills and participate in all camp activities. I became certified in small craft safety so I was able to instruct canoeing and kayaking on my own and I became excellent at chopping wood and starting campfires though out the summer!

We had a different theme week every week and my camp did a great job at providing a cultural exchange to both the staff and campers alike through our holiday week themed dinners and our international week activities.

I have so many favourite memories about camp that I could probably write a book but I’ll narrow it down to 4 for now: 1. the look of pride and excitement on a campers face when through my encouragement they achieved something they said they couldn’t, 2. the laugh I had when a camper I had for a previous week spotted me from the other side of the meadow or dining hall and ran at me screaming my name before tackling me to the ground, 3. the satisfaction of the girls as my entire unit plotted to push me fully clothed into the lake and 4. the true friendships I made with my co-counselors and fellow staff from all around the world – there was certainly never a dull moment with camp counselors around.

Friends back home ask me how camp was and no one word can adequately describe my summer. When they ask, I just start talking …and I don’t stop!!. I am counting down the days until I return next year.”
